Wheatland Road Gardens
Wheatland Road Gardens began as a community project on
a former garage site. Over 20 years ago, a few passionate community members transformed it into a flourishing green space where people gathered, planted, and connected.
For years, it thrived under their care, but as time passed, those who once tended it grew older and could no longer maintain it.

Gradually, the garden was overtaken by weeds, suffered vandalism, and became a dumping ground. Left neglected for over a decade, it faded from memory.

Recently, we rediscovered this hidden gem and, alongside Leicester City Council and local residents, are excited to bring Wheatland Road Gardens back to life.

We have only taken the first steps, and a long journey lies ahead of us.
What we have done so far…
Organised a couple of community days to clear the site of rubbish supported by Leicester City Council.
Organised litter-picking with young people and planted some pumpkins.
Developed and signed five contracts with local individuals who would like to look after their own allocated bed, alongside two beds designated for growing vegetables for the local primary school.
Hosted a pumpkin decorating
Halloween special for
young people aged 10+.
How the Wheatland Road Garden Looked like when we just found it...
After the major clearing,....
A huge thank you to Leicester City Council for supporting our first steps!
